Green Thumbs
Camilla Marcus
Camilla Marcus is a true steward of nature. A chef, activist, mama and entrepreneurial spirit behind one of our most favorite earth-forward provisions brands, west~bourne - Camilla is committed to championing change, innovation and regenerative farming. A California native, Camilla's West LA ranch style home exudes her love of all things natural, from her bountiful veggie garden to a whimsical gallery wall of framed menus collected from favorite chefs and restaurants that share her ethos. With spring in the air, we sat down and asked Camilla what drives her commitment to sustainability and what she's growing & cooking from the garden.
Who are your greatest "green" mentors?
I'm fortunate to learn so much from visionaries in our field and friends alike such as Ron Finley, Evan Marks, Alice Waters, Sam Rogers, Catherine Welch to name a few. It takes a village to create a revolution, and I'm humbled to be part of this incredible community of game changing humans.
What's growing & thriving in your garden?
We are savoring the end of our winter planting with artichokes, yuzu, mokum carrots, chives, leeks, radicchio and rhubarb in full bloom.
What are your al fresco entertaining essentials?
First, start with a group of good humans, some friends and some strangers - I love mixing it up when we host. Candles, beautiful linens, foraged flowers, and fresh produce on the grill. There's nothing better than the crispness and smell of outdoor cooking over a live fire.
What seeds are you sowing this spring - personally, professionally?
I'm on a mission to align personal and planetary health to regenerate the next generation. We have so much exciting product development under way at west~bourne to futher support our regenerative farm partners and grow our impact. At home, we have a new baby coming this summer just in time for sungold tomatoes, jimmy nardello peppers, shiso, graffiti eggplant, fresco chiles, and pink blueberries. For me, every season brings vibrant possibilities and ways to learn and expand - earth minded and impact forward, always.
